Spring Cleaning through Yoga on Wednesday Eves

Saucha: meaning PURITY; literally, "that, and nothing else" is one of the observances (niyamas) of a yogic lifestyle based on yoga philosophy. The practice of saucha is applied to all levels of our being (koshas). The physical, mental and emotional aspects of our being are cleansed through postures, breathwork, and the resultant balancing effect that regular yoga practice brings. Our capacity to expand our own witness consciousness increases; we begin to grow, heal, and transform. And so, our truest selves are revealed and we experience our being in all our joy, beauty, and grace.
Spring Cleaning begins tonite!

A Poem

The Soul of Yoga

What is the soul of Yoga?
Follow your heart into the
center of the pose and find
in the midst of detail and
precision, in breath, alignment,
balance, bliss, fear and sadness -
at the very core of all of this
is love. Touch upon your
truest nature even once and
the experience of what you
really are sears the psyche
like the surface of the sun.
The soul of yoga, the gift
within the pose is the
moment of communion,
resting in pure essence,
the awakening as if from
sleep to the face of
unmistakable divinity;
the ineffable wonder and
living reality of spirit - oh,
yes - the soul of yoga is love.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who made food donations at our two free yoga classes on January 22 and 28 and to Gouveia's Tae Kwon Do students who also came through with bags of food. In addition to what is donated, the Johnnycake Center in Westerly spends about $1000 per week to help feed local families. The need is great. Thank you for helping to fill that need.

Join us for a yoga adventure!

What happens when everybody picks their favorite animal to encounter on a nature hike? You end up meeting guinea pigs, cats and chickens in the woods that's what!

With parents joining in for the class, the kids *hiked* in the studio and what an adventure we all had! Yoga is a great way to connect with your child - having fun as you laugh, play and just be in the moment together.

Join us Wednesdays and Fridays from 11-11:30 for some yoga fun!

Warm Body, Many Warm Hearts

Stacia is right. There is noting like a great yoga practice to warm your body when it is frigid outside. As you connect movement with breath, turn inward and remain in the present moment something else happens. Your heart softens, opens and glows with warmth that lasts beyond savasana (deep relaxation). You can also warm the hearts of others by bringing a non perishable food item to our FREE yoga class, Friday, January 22, 6 - 7:30 pm. Food will be donated to a local organization feeding the hungry in our area.

Cranking Up the Heat From Within

You 'll forget that its freezing outside when you practice yoga with us. Come feel the warmth thats generated in your body when you stretch, strengthen and breathe with conscious effort and focused mind. When it's cold we tend to contract our muscles, which affects our posture and the systems of our body. Release the tension and feel yourself come alive! Find a new perspective on the cold darkness of winter, it can be quite invigorating!

Being Yourself...a lovely reminder

from the writing of Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist monk...

"Look at the tree in the front yard. The tree doesn’t seem to be doing anything. It stands there, vigorous, fresh, and beautiful, and everyone profits from it. That’s the miracle of being. If a tree were less than a tree, all of us would be in trouble. But if a tree is just a real tree, then there’s hope and joy. That’s why if you can be yourself, that is already action. Action is based on non-action; action is being."

Gift of Yoga

The holidays have passed, but you have one more gift to give. Give yourself the gift of yoga. In a typical class you will move in ways that will stretch, strengthen and relax your body. With continued practice of learning to link the breath with movement you will be amazed at how you will stretch, strengthen and relax your mind. Yoga means union. Whether you are trying yoga for the first time or renewing a practice, come and unite your body and mind. Together we will find the peace that lies within all of us.

Talking Tapas (& I don't mean bar snacks!)

TAPAS is among the 5 Niyamas, a category of behaviors regarding our relationship to ourself, and refers to the activity of keeping the body fit. Literally, it means to heat the body, and by so doing, cleanse it. It means exercising discipline to maintain the health of our being.
Happy New Year! Lets practice TAPAS together!
